As you are already likely aware, the US Congress previously enacted the Temporary Payroll Tax Cut Continuation Act of 2011. Recently, President Obama and Congress agreed to extend the 2011 payroll tax cut through February 29, 2012. What this means is that the “employee’s” OASDI portion of FICA taxes (i.e. Social Security tax contributions) will be calculated on and deducted from gross wages at a rate of 4.2% (a 2% reduction from the normal 6.2%). Please be aware that the “employer rate” is unchanged and will remain at 6.2%. The Medicare tax rate (portion of FICA taxes) of 1.45% (with no maximum cutoff) is not impacted for either employees or employers.
To assist you and your company in completing your company’s financial projections and calculating your employee administration costs for the New Year, here are a few of the key changes and updates for 2012:
· Social Security (OASDI) Wage Base……………………………….$110,100
